Play any number of trainer cards. (Except supporter and stadium cards, which only let you play one per turn.) Retreat your active Pokémon to your bench by paying the retreat cost on its card in energy from your hand. You must then replace it with a Pokémon from your bench. Use any number of abilities on Pokémon cards.
The 3DS can play Gen 4, 5, 6, and 7, except for the Let's Go games. The Switch can play Let's Go, along with Gen 8 (once it's released). While older fans balked at the way Let's Go Pikachu & Eevee offered a much more simplified take on the Pokémon formula, they're still among the best-selling Nintendo Switch games of all time. With just over 13 million copies worldwide sold between them as of December 20, a sequel is kind of a no-brainer.
If you have some sort of PC I would suggest an emulator. Just a few days ago I went to Vimms Lair and downloaded a gameboy advance emulator to play my childhood games, as well. It works surprisingly good and I been playing Advance Wars 1 and 2, Pokémon Fire Red, and Mother 3. I have a 2013 MacBook if that helps any.
