Steps to turn on or off. Switch the camera; Set the Mode Dial to < P / Tv / Av / M / B>. Press the button to display the menu screen. Press the < > button and select the [ ] tab. Turn the < > dial to select the [ ] tab. Turn the < > dial to select [VF display illumination], then press < >. Turn the < > dial to select [Auto / On
Open and close the card door a few times (and remove the card as suggested) to see whether that restores function once the battery is installed. IF there is a local camera store, they MAY be willing to try one of their batteries in hopes of selling you a replacement if the Canon battery died.

The last thing to check is that the Rotate Image option, in the Remote Shooting tab of the Preferences menu in EOS Utility, is checked. You will need to open the Preferences menu of EOS Utility first by clicking the Preferences button, select the Remote Shooting tab, and then make sure the Rotate Image setting has a checkmark.
