Dorne was one of the seven kingdoms. The seven kingdoms where the realms in westeros that existed before the conquest. Dorne was never conquered by force,but was brought into the realm by marriage. That is why there are still other laws than in the rest of westeros ( i.e. inheritance of the throne) and the ruler of Dorne has the title of a prince.
